Life has been extremely busy over the past few weeks, hence my lack of blogging! My time has been spent frolicking at the beach, well not really more chauffeuring and spectating while our two youngest boys competed in surfing competitions. From one five day competition to another and another three day competition this weekend.
I love our life and I enjoy that our children are so actively involved in surfing and other sports. But I also find being at the beach time wasting, now don’t get me wrong I am not complaining, I love the beach. But it is hard as a writer to find the space to write.
I do find myself sitting in my car in between heats, grabbing any moment I can. I have recently discovered a great configuration for our oversized van, which I utilise when writing.
In saying this, I did reach a milestone with my up and coming novel: the first draft is complete Yah!!! This is a major milestone and I have to thank my beautiful friend Ned, who assisted with editing my first draft. This book has been emotionally draining, uplifting and enlightening. It has been a journey, one of self discovery! I have gone through self-doubt to belief in my own ability as a writer and back again. Weighing heavy in writing this true story, is the responsibility to do it justice. This is my family’s story: a terrifying event for my parents and sister. A day that no one should ever have to experience, but they did, life goes on, the past is the past, but sometimes it needs to be rediscovered in a new light.
The next stage is to send a copy of my manuscript to my mum, not so much for her approval, but to ensure I have kept it as true to fact as possible. Time doesn’t forget and although this incident occurred 49 years ago, the memories for my parents run deep, never forgotten, just tucked away. I am both nervous and excited for her final response. For now, I will keep plodding along, doing life with my three beautiful boys, experiencing every moment, the highs the lows and the in-betweens.
Keep following my journey as I approach the launch date. If you want more inside information on my current book or ideas for my future books then sign up to my email list and I will keep you posted.
